The adage goes that we marry our parents: that most men subconsciously look for someone like their mothers and many women seek someone like their fathers.
I'll pause a moment to let the spasms of denial subside.
Better?
It's an irksome idea. While I love my dad, I'd rather believe I married my husband for reasons unique to him. To put a finer point on it, I love my mother-in-law, too, but I think of her and myself as completely different people.
