Jun. 6--EAST PEORIA, Ill.--An innocuous request on the East Peoria City Council's agenda to place a sign on public right of way belies the resilience of the man who rebuilt a $10 million business that went up in flames four years ago.

For petitioner Dan Hoerr, the sign, for which approval is expected at tonight's council meeting, represents a turning point after fire destroyed the 125,000-square-foot warehouse complex, KDH Ltd., of which he was part-owner.

A year after the January 1996 fire at the Thunderbird Lane site, Hoerr took over KDH Ltd. and transformed it into the 15-acre East Peoria Business Center, a warehouse, storage and office business park. ...
