Nininger Township is about 20 miles southeast of the Twin Cities in the cradle of the Mississippi River as it winds its way south through Dakota County toward Hastings and Red Wing. It's another of those on-the-fringe communities where locals espouse its rural qualities while praising its access to the city.
"We still have the feel of the country, but we're close to the cities," said Judy Krupich, township clerk
Krupich acknowledges another fact of life in Nininger:
"It's growing a little more rapidly than I like. I'd like to see Hastings and the surrounding area stay small."
