Ten years ago, people floated out of "Gospel at Colonus" at the Guthrie Theater high on gospel fervor and jazzed about the prospects of the marvelous cast: that deep-voiced actor playing the Messenger, that guitarist with the sweet soul voice and those dynamic, energetic Steeles.
In the decade since those 66 sold-out "Colonus" performances here, that actor - Morgan Freeman - went on to drive Miss Daisy (on stage and on screen), earn Oscar nominations and become a major Hollywood star.
That guitarist - Sam Butler - moved to the Twin Cities, where he has become a fixture on the local gospel-brunch circuit.
And the Steeles, well, they never ...
