Milwaukee-based leisure travel entrepreneur Bill La Macchia announced Tuesday that he will buy Sun Country Airlines and keep it in the Twin Cities.
Other bidders, including more than one big U.S. carrier, had sought to acquire Sun Country from majority owner John Barry with the intention of moving it to a new location, said Jack Helms, a mergers and acquisitions consultant involved in the deal. Sun Country, with administrative and maintenance headquarters at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, employs more than 1,000 people.
