Three of Minnesota's flooding rivers - the Minnesota, Red and St. Croix - are among the 20 most threatened rivers in the nation, a national environmental group said Wednesday.
The group, American Rivers, cited the Minnesota for a variety of threats, including the tainted runoff of fertilizers, animal wastes and sediment from farm fields. More than 90 percent of the land drained by the river and its tributaries is farmed.
American Rivers is one of many private groups working with government agencies in a major program to clean up the Minnesota, the state's most-polluted major stream.
