Kathie Mikucki Pennie was a builder of community - in her profession, her city, her neighborhood, her family.
Pennie, a St. Paul attorney and civic activist, died Thursday evening when she was struck by a wayward Humvee and knocked into a road sign as she and her husband walked their dog near their home in Sunfish Lake. She was 52.
Building community of all kinds was "her heart and soul," her husband, Daniel, said Saturday.
Much of that passion she put into her work as chairwoman of the board of Resources for Child Caring Inc. of St. Paul, a nonprofit agency that provides child-care resources and referrals.
