Alpine Industries, a direct-marketer of air purifying systems that moved its headquarters from Minnesota to Tennessee this year, was the subject of a critical report on NBC's "Dateline" news magazine Tuesday night.
"Dateline" declined to comment on the Alpine report before it aired, but according to a promotional summary on the "Dateline" Web site on the Internet, the report by correspondent Lea Thompson was to examine "claims that a new air purifier can literally clear the air, relieving the miseries of allergies and asthma and even providing protection from the next killer virus.
