With all the interest in film scores these days, it's odd that no one has put together a program - or a recording - of concert music composed for films, as opposed to background music.

Some would have to be weeded out. The "rock symphony" that Mr. Holland conducts tearfully at the end of "Mr. Holland's Opus" is bad enough to suggest that Mr. Holland did the world a favor when he gave up composing for teaching.

Richard Addinsell's "Warsaw Concerto," on the other hand, composed for the English film "Suicide Squadron" in 1942, is first-rate imitation Rachmaninoff and should be heard more often.

Maybe the best of these is the Cello Concerto in C ...
