As Tom Lehman walked from the ninth green to the 10th tee Thursday in the first round of the British Open, he turned to caddie Andy Martinez and offered some ominous advice.
"Batten down the hatches," Lehman said.
The defending British Open champion was about to enter that war zone known as the incoming nine holes of Royal Troon. Normally not a pessimist, Lehman had felt some warning signals that his golf swing was not at top form. And the final nine holes at Royal Troon will torpedo any golfer not on his game.
