As a teenager on Minnesota's Iron Range, Steve Cannon worked summers pulling shifts in the mining pits near Aurora, Minn. It was tough, tedious work, the kind of drudgery that inspired a young man with dreams and ambition to make more of his life.
"I didn't want to work the mines," Cannon said the other day. "This was a great impetus for me."
It was for a generation of Rangers.
