In the first campaign news conference of Minneapolis Mayor Sharon Sayles Belton's reelection campaign, two teachers, a parent and a school board member gathered at the Whittier School playground Wednesday to endorse her for another term.
They applauded her support for the 1996 excess tax levy, community schools and later start times.
Meanwhile, her supporters criticized challenger Barbara Carlson's all-charter-schools proposal, which she publicized with a nationwide USA Today advertisement calling for 104 new principals in Minneapolis.
