Interior Secretary Bruce Babbitt swore to skeptical Republican senators Thursday that White House officials put no pressure on his department before it refused a permit for an Indian casino in Hudson, Wis.
Brushing off a conflicting account from a former law partner and political ally, Babbitt also insisted he has "no recollection" of remarking the day of the decision that the Indian tribes had donated about $500,000 to Democrats.
During a daylong hearing before the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee, GOP investigators made yet another revelation in the Hudson controversy.
