Virginia Lupo has seen almost everything imaginable when it comes to delivering babies: a 13-year-old mom, crack babies, fetal alcohol syndrome, abusive parents having yet another baby. The list goes on and on.
But never as a physician and as director of maternal and fetal medicine at Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis, has Lupo looked at an ultrasound and seen 14 legs, 14 arms and seven heads. Yet, that is what doctors at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines saw when they looked at the ultrasound of Bobbi McCaughey, 29, a Carlisle, Iowa, woman who has carried her septuplets into their 30th week.
