If you read Frederick Forsyth's "The Day of the Jackal" or saw the 1973 movie adaptation, rest assured that neither gives away the story in "The Jackal." This thriller is a remake only in the loosest sense. The filmmakers took Forsyth's character - an internationally infamous political assassin - and made up a whole new adventure for him.
The original story took place in France, involved an attempt to assassinate President Charles de Gaulle and was cracked by the local police. Furthermore, the Jackal was surgically precise, a man who killed with a single bullet.
