Months ago, before the Great American History Theatre in St. Paul had gotten out much publicity about its production called "The Orphan Train," the theater's phones already were ringing.
"Tell me about the play," a caller would say. "I'm old now, but I was a child on the orphan train and adopted by Minnesota people."
Or, "My grandfather rode the orphan train."
Or, "I saw the PBS special on orphan trains. Such a fascinating topic!"
The fictional new drama opens Saturday evening, and in the front row will be four to six people who rode the orphan trains as children. They're among hundreds of thousands who were plucked out of East Coast ...
