Has science brought us a margarine that lowers serum cholesterol levels and reduces our risk of heart disease, the nation's No. 1 killer?
For some of us it has, according to a report in last week's issue of the American Heart Association journal Circulation.
The margarine Benecol, developed in Finland, contains a cholesterol-blocking substance that dampens the body's capacity to absorb cholesterol from food.
The product is sold in Finland. A U.S. company owns the right to market it here and has said it might start selling it next year.
