Article: Cabin owners seek more property tax relief.(NEWS)

A year after wresting one of 1995's few property tax breaks from the Legislature, Minnesota cabin owners are back, demanding eight new measures to correct what they call "taxation without representation."

They want a constitutional amendment giving them the right to vote on tax referendums affecting their second homes or, barring that, exemptions from increased taxes set by referendum. They want a $40 million property tax break. They want a cost-of-living-based limit on rising assessed valuations.

And they want more respect from government officials in resort areas where they live an average of two months a year.
