1/3 A few years back, a fellow was surprised to discover that the time he had spent daydreaming at St. Gabriel's Grade School in Fulda, Minn., was not his fault. It was not boredom that caused the youngster to spend hours staring out the window. It was a splendid affliction called attention-deficit disorder.

More recently, the same fellow was nabbed for traveling too fast on a rural Minnesota highway. The speeder blamed this on his failure to spend enough time looking in his rearview mirror, accepted full responsibility, and sent in the check for the fine.

Thank to James Halikas, an eminent psychologist, I now know that paying this ticket was wrong.
