Huddling in small groups, they came up with lists of shared traits, including a love of pizza, cats and camping, an inability to
roller-blade and a desire to make the world a better place.
That ice-breaking exercise led 27 Minneapolis girls from ninth to 12th grades more comfortably into deeper issues of styles of power and leadership.
"Just because a person looks different outside, if you can sit down with them, you can find things you agree on," said Latarshia Lewis, of north Minneapolis, a ninth-grader at Patrick Henry High School.
