Not all that long ago an examination of the refrigerator (or icebox) of a savvy homemaker would almost surely have turned up a roll or two of refrigerator cookies, ready to slice and bake in a jiffy for unexpected callers or as a special treat.
Commercial cylinders of refrigerated slice-and-bake cookie dough may have eliminated the need for refrigerator cookies, but in the same sense bags of ready-made cookies could be said to have eliminated the need for baking cookies at all.
