In what could be good transit news for elderly and disabled people, Twin Cities Metro Mobility received authorization from the federal government Tuesday to shorten the advance reservation period for rides. The change may reduce the number of trips denied every day.

Every day, Metro Mobility provides about 3,700 rides and denies 150. Trip denials have risen to 8 percent of all rides requested since October 1995, when service was reduced because of a lack of funding.
