In another setback for gay and lesbian activists, the DFL state convention voted Sunday not to adopt a platform plank in favor of same-sex marriages.
Five of eight party congressional district conventions had adopted the proposed plank, which called for government to "recognize the rights of same-sex marriage for couples to share fully and equally in the rights, responsibilities and commitments sanctioned by civil law."
But of 100 resolutions offered for addition to the party's platform, it was the only one that failed to gain the required support of 60 percent of the 1,263 delegates. Without formal debate, the plank received only 53 percent of the ...
