Beaten last week at the polls but still holding power, Darrell (Chip) Wadena remains chairman of the White Earth Chippewa and is urging a person recently appointed a judge by his tribal council to call a new election.
Wadena says tribal election officials spent so much time in federal court responding to allegations of vote fraud in previous elections that they didn't have time to deal with absentee votes in the election last week.
He argues that White Earth tribal election officials were forced to "abandon their post" because prosecutors required them to be at the trial on alleged tribal corruption in St. Paul.
