For a change, there was no dominant winner at the Minnesota Music Awards. Prince was named artist of the year and Golden Smog won the award for best major-label album Thursday night at First Avenue in Minneapolis. But neither earned any other award. So, maybe appropriately, the night belonged to Steve McClellan, longtime general manager of First Avenue, the cities' most influential nightclub.
