Here are some guidelines for tipping:
- You don't have to tip the Federal Express delivery person or a strolling musician in a restaurant.
- It's a federal crime to tip your postal carrier.
- For caddies, the proper tip is $10 for nine holes.
- For a hairdresser, tip a lower percentage for high-cost services (coloring, 10 to 15 percent), higher for low-cost services (up to 25 percent for set, style or cut).
- You shouldn't tip golf or tennis pros or trainers, but you should give them Christmas gifts.
- A baby sitter who's asked to do chores or to stay after midnight should be tipped up to 15 percent.
