Young America Corp. has agreed to pay $390,000 in back wages to 400 workers who the U.S. Department of Labor alleges were entitled to minimum wage because they were employees, not independent contractors.
The "home workers," who were paid on a piece-work basis, checked and entered rebate and coupon information into computers at their homes.
The promotion fulfillment company in Carver County continues to dispute whether the workers were employees but said it settled the case to avoid the time and expense of litigation.
