The dean of the University of Minnesota Law School stepped forward at the last minute Friday at the Board of Regents' meeting with a new proposal designed to offer the regents and the faculty a way out of their impasse on their tenure dispute.
The proposal from Dean Thomas Sullivan, made at the request of President Nils Hasselmo, does not include the controversial faculty layoff provision that the regents say is crucial for making future changes. But it was put forward to "get beyond the present impasse and avoid brinkmanship," Sullivan told the regents.
