At 4 feet 10 inches tall, women's rights activist Mildred Hargraves was once described as an unfailingly gracious woman and a tower of ferocious energy.
While a student at the University of Akron in the early 1920s, she became one of the first women in the United States to become a member of a men's debate team. Her resume includes service on the governor's committee for constitutional revision and being state president of the League of Women Voters, an organization she's credited with rebuilding in the 1940s and '50s.
Hargraves, 92, died in her sleep Saturday at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield, Minn. She lived in Rochester, Minn., for more than ...
