Mankato's Division I move tests coach's patience.(SPORTS)

After 27 years of playing hockey in NCAA Division II or III, Mankato State took the long-awaited step up to Division I this season. The Mavericks have played 13 games against opponents from all three levels, with somewhat surprising results.

Mankato State has played Division I teams to a draw, going 4-4-1. But the Mavericks are 1-2-1 against presumably weaker teams from Division II or III. Coach Don Brose has an explanation.

"It's the old story of we get sky-high when we play the Division I teams and they take it as a day off, and we can sneak up and steal something from them once in a while," Brose said. "But that in turn is the same way the Division II and III teams ...
