From the first day, Fran Fraschilla has told his new players they will return St. John's to its rightful place much like the ancient cities of Europe were built. But they began with gravel before they lifted a brick.
Gone is the beeper and the bagged lunch, items two of his players foolishly brought to the first team meeting Fraschilla called after arriving from crosstown Manhattan College. Gone, too, are the names from the back of the Red Storm uniforms, which have been redesigned to what Fraschilla calls a very "vanilla" presentation.
