The rising popularity of bread machines means more dough for local flour and yeast makers.
Once solely the toy of gourmets, bread machines now are being gobbled up by shoppers tempted by lower-priced models. That popularity not only is making bread machine manufacturers happy, but is putting smiles on the faces of flour makers such as General Mills Inc. and Pillsbury Co. as well. They see the bread flour niche as a bright spot in the otherwise dismal household flour business, which has languished in recent years because so few people bake from scratch.
