Jun. 9--The attorney for Clint Reilly -- who's suing to stop the sale of the San Francisco Chronicle -- filed court documents Thursday alleging that the U.S. Department of Justice agreed with Reilly that the true test of whether the San Francisco Examiner could survive into the future was to try to sell it intact with its shared business operation agreement with the Chronicle.
Hearst Corp., owners of the Examiner, refused to do that because -- claims Reilly attorney Joseph Alioto -- the company intended to buy the morning paper, shut its Examiner, or sell it to an unfit buyer doomed to fail, and then drive up subscription and ad rates as it reaped profits in a ...
