I'M often surprised how many bottles of red wine include a broad statement on the label that reads along the lines of: 'ideal with red meat, game and cheese.'
Not only is the meat and game part gloriously vague (would a wine that suits a simply grilled lamb chop stand up to a well hung roast partridge?) but many cheeses destroy the taste of red wine making it taste harsh and tannic.
