Faulkner's Place brings together eight of Michael Millgate's previously published essays, spanning two decades from 1971 to 1991, though written largely between the late 1970s and the mid-1980s. In the preface, Millgate describes the essays as 'occasional' pieces, mainly intended for oral delivery at specific conferences, and though he has revised the selection for coherence, and omitted some of the more local commentary, he is clearly aware that this book, timed for Faulkner's centenary year, itself risks being viewed as a ...
