Article: Accessibility of subsoil potassium to wheat grown on duplex soils in the south-west of Western Australia.(Statistical Data Included)

Introduction

Potassium (K) deficiency was first reported in pastures in the wetter regions of the south-west of Western Australia (Fitzpatrick and Dunne 1956) and later extended to pastures grown in the medium rainfall (400-600 mm) regions (Cox 1973). The effect of K deficiency in pasture was severe for subterranean clover and this led to both poor pasture yield and quality (Toms and Fitzpatrick 1961). Subsequent investigation showed responses by grain legumes grown on deep sand (Cox 1978) and by cereals on duplex soils (Leach 1981; Anderson et al. 1992; Edwards 1997).
