NEW YORK -- The allergy season arrived ear her than usual this year, and chain drug retailers are reaping the benefits.
A warm winter caused pollinating to begin earlier than it traditionally does. As the national weather warmed up in April, pollen counts were "notably high, off the wall," says Leonard Bielory of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. "The reading for trees was 1,100 in late April 2000 --which is extremely high."
Bielory estimates that one in every three Americans has allergies, with 5 million of the sufferers being children.
