LOS ANGELES _ The house where Oscar De La Hoya grew up is for sale. It sits on a quiet, unassuming street in East Los Angeles, where kids are playing and women are watering their gardens. Unless you had been told this was once the home of a famous boxer, it would look just like any other house on the block.
It's a small, drab, almost colorless structure with an iron gate to keep out intruders and a mangy dog barking half-heartedly at passing strangers. No markers indicate its place in boxing history _ or East L.A.'s sporting history, for that matter _ but nearly everyone who lives here knows where it is.
