Twenty-four hours after exploding for 16 runs and 21 hits, the Tigers were their old run-starved selves Wednesday night.
Despite putting two or more runners on base in six different innings and stranding 13 overall, the Tigers couldn't sustain a rally and were beaten by Chris Carpenter and the Blue Jays, 8-1, at Comerica Park.
Carpenter, who was 0-2 with a 8.23 ERA in six previous career starts against the Tigers, gave up nine hits and six walks in eight innings, but allowed only an eighth-inning run and improved to 6-5.
