There's been much ballyhoo about the privacy and safety benefits of digital selective calling (DSC) radios, even though the U.S. Coast Guard's landbased infrastructure hasn't met the pace projected by DSC manufacturers. Still, the ability to push a button and send a continuous digital Mayday containing vessel identification, time and GPS coordinates is hugely attractive.
