Affiliate programs are proving to be more cost effective and better customer-acquisition models than banner advertising or even portal partnerships, according to two e-commerce retailers.
Michael Feldman, director of partner marketing for Fogdog.com, and Cherry Arnold, director of affiliate networks for Barnesandnoble.com, explained that they have signed agreements with a variety of news, entertainment and other content-rich sites to drive qualified traffic to their own e-commerce sites.
New York-based Barnesandnoble.com has more than 225,000 affiliates, said Arnold, adding, "This is the most inexpensive way to do marketing online."
