When, Syrian poet Nizzar Qabbani published his first anthology under the title Childhood of a Bosom, it caused an uproar in the conservative Damascus of 1947. Last month, Childhood of a Bosom caused another furious row, this time between two producers in the offices of a London based Arab Television service.

The senior producer, -- a Palestinian woman in her 40s, was angered by the younger male producer's wish to censor the poems out of a two hour live programme dedicated to Qabbani, who died in London aged 72 on 30 April.
