Cynics may dismiss the boosterism that has crept over the St. Louis Post-Dispatch in recent years as simply toadying to advertisers, or cite it as another example of unethical conduct in modern journalism--but it ain't so.
Boosterism is really the highest embodiment of journalist ethics, at least that is the impression Publisher Terrence Egger gives.
Egger told a group of West County business men and women that the Post has "a moral imperative to find ways to help local businesses be successful."
Newspapers, said Egger, "exist to help individuals, communities and democracy flourish." Key to that are local businesses, because "if they are wiped ...
