Fenway Partners, a New York investment group, is making an aggressive grab for the Northwest mattress market, making offers on sleep shops before the owners even know that they are interested in selling.

Affiliates of the company now own more than 50 stores in Washington and Oregon, with the purchase this week of Sleep Train, a Sacramento-based mattress store.

In March, Fenway Partners bought majority interest in Sleep Country USA, the Kent-based business founded by Sunny Kobe Cook.
