Snakes are about as popular as a festering case of poison ivy.
When people see one of the critters they are apt to do one of two things: run from it or kill it.
Snakes, however, do not deserve their nasty reputations, says Mary Ehresman, Hamilton County Park naturalist. She recently presented a program on the legless wonders for children at Miami Whitewater Forest.
This is the time of year when snakes are most likely seen in Greater Cincinnati backyards, she says.
Because they are cold-blooded animals, they need the sun to regulate their body temperatures and in spring the weather is conducive for them to find a spot to sun themselves. ...
