With an ability to capitalize on the city's huge ethnic and cultural diversity and its constant stream of eager workers as well as the city's position as the epicenter of new food trends, food manufacturers in New York City are not just healthy, but growing. A recent survey by the not-for-profit New York Industrial Retention Network (NYIRN) in Brooklyn found 533 such companies, with a combined 15,000 employees, serving an increasingly national and international customer base. NYIRN expects jobs in the industry to swell by 1,000 over the next two years, and predicts rising investment in plants and equipment, reports Crain's New York Business.
