In anticipation of the forthcoming merger between Qwest Communications International Inc. and U S WEST, Inc., Fitch has assigned initial ratings to Qwest and has made rating changes to outstanding U S WEST-related debt.

Qwest Communications International Inc.: --Senior Notes/Senior Discount Notes Assigned a `BBB+' Rating.
LCI International: --Notes Assigned a `BBB+' Rating.
U S WEST Capital Funding (to be renamed Qwest Capital Funding): --Medium-Term Notes rated 'BBB+' Downgraded from `A' and removed from Rating Watch Negative. ...
