In the land of curds and whey, Wisconsin wants a poet laureate to make that words and whey.
Gov. Tommy Thompson and several Wisconsin poets announced Tuesday they want to name the state's first poet laureate by October.
Wisconsin, one of 14 states without a poet laureate, will showcase its honoree statewide during a part-time, unpaid four-year term, Thompson said.
``Our children live in a technical world that's quick to dismiss poetry,'' Thompson said.
``But it's about all of us. It's about coming home from a long day at work and making a whole new discovery, an opportunity to grasp something other than the television remote.''
