Palawan Gov. Salvador Socrates, along with 10 other military officers, including the chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Western Command (Wescom), and civilians were killed when their Philippine Air Force (PAF) plane exploded in mid-air and crashed at sea shortly after it took off from Cagayancillo, Palawan yesterday morning.
Reports reaching Gen. Angelo T. Reyes, AFP chief of staff, said that the AFP Western Command chief killed was Maj. Gen. Santiago Madrid Jr., a member of Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class 1967 who was based in Puerto Princesa City.
