So, it wasn't a bad start by any means last week for old Ross Kemp at the beginning of his second major role for ITV. Especially for midsummer.

It's all a bit contrived, of course, but the performances look set to make this legal eagle series work.

Having clashed last week in court, jobless lawyer Sam Lucas (Kemp) tonight just happens to get another post at the same firm as his ex-lover Bernie Kramer (Sophie Okonedo).

Then he winds her up by taking on one of her cases.
